Predator Studies Offer Good News, Bad News
Two new surveys suggest that young Internet users are still at risk of
exposure to Internet predators. Though incidences of solicitation are
on the decline, according to one of the studies, youngsters are experiencing
more exposure to unwanted pornography and online harassment.

Online Exposed to More Porn but Fewer Sexual Solicitations
A new national survey of online youth has both bad news and good news
for those concerned about Internet safety. The bad news: increasing exposure
to unwanted pornography and online harassment and cyber-bullying. The
good news: less sexual solicitation .These results are reported in a study
conducted by University of New Hampshire researchers for the National
Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC). The survey compared
youth experiences in 1999-2000 with those in 2005.

The Federal Government is trying to minimise the risks associated with
internet surfing and announced last month that it will spend $93 million
on providing free content filtering software to families. Another $16
million will be spent on awareness campaigns.

Minister Issues Warning to Stamp out 'Cyberbullying'
The Government is aiming to get tough on "cyberbullying", with
new guidelines to support schools in tackling the problem and force bullies'
mothers and fathers to attend parenting classes. The move came as research
showed up to one in five children had been bullied via their mobile phone
or through the internet.
