The Online Safety and Technology Working Group (OSTWG), was established by the National Telecommunications and Information Administration.  The authors note: “In focusing so much on blocking new media from school as a protection, schools are failing to do with today’s media what they have long done for students with traditional media – enrich and guide their use” (page 3) The group recommended that the government “promote nationwide education in digital citizenship and media literacy as the cornerstone of internet safety.”
